Lights are required for these paddles. No lights, no paddle, it's the law. Lights are available onsite for rental or purchase. VKOC features LUCI Lights -- Solar powered, rechargeable, waterproof , LED lights. LUCI lights and others are available at the park starting at $10 and you get to keep and use them for years to come. Visiting? Rental lights are only $5.
TIME & PLACE:
Meet at Virginia Key Outdoor Center on Virginia Key at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled event start (launch) time. Yes, we are in Miami but please do not be late. We will have to leave without you.

This paddle is suitable for all experience levels. In the event of wind, novice paddleboarders are encouraged to use kayaks instead. Please call in advance to verify weather. Rain in Coral Gables does NOT mean rain on Virginia Key.
Final destination and route is subject to weather. The lagoon is always sheltered and the creek is calm.
ALL Rentals include paddle and life jacket, whistle. You must bring your own light. Lights are available for rental or purchase at VKOC. Life jackets and lights are required.

From the mainland, head towards Key Biscayne on the Rickenbacker Causeway
Go past the toll plaza and the the Powell Bridge (tall bridge)
Continue to the light at MAST Academy
Take your first left immediately after the MAST Academy Light
(there is NO light, just a turn lane)
Look for a brown and gold sign on the fence and Green gatehouse
Continue to gate and let them know you are here for the kayak and paddleboard trip
Continue towards the right fork of the road for approx 1.25 mi.
At the end of the road make a left and quick right
Follow signs to Virginia Key Outdoor Center on your left, lagoon is on your right
Please park in the VKOC parking lot.
WHAT TO BRING:
A towel and dry change of clothes are recommended. Creature comforts, waterproof camera, bug repellent.
Soft drinks, snacks, insect repellent, and lights are also available from the park store.
Your boat, your paddle, your PFD (which you will wear), lights for night paddling, drinks and snack food, bug spray is recommended just in case. Don't forget your camera and cheerful disposition.
